Eid-Ul Adha 2020 Qurbani (Gambia)

Smilez has partnered with the People Empowerment Life Project (PELP) to deliver Qurbani in Gambia.

Thanks to you (our generous donors) we have achieved our goal and have successfully completed this Project.

PELP is a charity registered and operating in Gambia which helps widows, blind children, poor and orphans by providing food, medicine, and education. Its primary operation is in North Bank Region and Serekunda. PELP has been operating since 2011 and have helped many people in need.

During the festival of Eid-ul Adha (a national celebration in Gambia) Smilez provided portions of meat to 80 families so that they can eat high quality, fresh and premium meat at least once a year. Each family portion was sufficient for at least one wholesome meal.

The cost of a medium sized cow in Gambia was £350. Therefore there were 7 donation packages available each costing £50.

The donations covered:

  • Purchasing the cows from local farmers
  • Sheltering, feeding and watering for one week
  • Providing 24/7 security personnel to protect from theft
  • Slaughtering and creating portions of meat
  • Distribution of meat.

We always operate a 100% donation policy. All other costs (for example international foreign exchange fees, transport and logistics, etc) was covered by the charity.
