Eid-Ul Adha 2020 – Qurbani
Thanks to you (our generous donors) we have achieved our goal and have successfully completed this Project.
30 June 2020: Due to the popularity of this campaign and the number of pledges we have received we have had to increase the number of cows from 3 to 4, thus providing an additional 7 donation slots. Details below have been updated to reflect this.
For many families living below the poverty line in Bangladesh their diet consists only of rice and vegetables as the price of fish, poultry and meat is very high.
During the festival of Eid-ul Adha (a national celebration) Smilez provided portions of meat to four hundred families so that they can eat high quality, fresh and premium meat at least once a year. Each family portion was sufficient for at least one wholesome meal.
To provide 400 portions of meat we required four large cows. The cost of each Cow was £700 and there were seven donation slots per cow.
This was a fixed donation campaign with each donation package costing £100.
A total of £2,800 was raised (i.e. 4 cows times 7 donation packages times £100 per package)
The donations covered:
- Purchasing the cows from local farmers
- Sheltering, feeding and watering for one week
- Providing 24/7 security personnel to protect from theft
- Slaughtering and creating 400 portions of meat
- Distribution of meat to 400 families.
We always operate a 100% donation policy. All other costs (for example international foreign exchange fees, transport and logistics, etc) was covered by the charity.
